Mission Statement

The SOTAbots' mission is to create and sustain a cohesive student-led high school FRC robotics team that embodies gracious professionalism and values individual diversity and collaboration all the while connecting with our community. Our team uses our robot and student passion to inspire an enthusiastic appreciation of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through local outreach by ways of educational programming throughout Tacoma. We want to share our passion for STEAM with all ages, and show our community that careers in STEAM fields are attainable, desirable, and vital by "encouraging more of today’s youth to become science and technology leaders". We strive to spark a passion for STEAM in underserved youth communities in Tacoma.

Interested in joining for the 2025-2026 school year?

On August 4th, we will be having our second, off-season summer meeting, this is intended for new incoming freshman (9th graders) to take a first look into what the SOTAbots is. This meeting includes our traditional pancake breakfast, info about our team, and a chance to meet the team! Please bring your parents if you are interested! We will be meeting at Portable 6 at iDEA High School (6701 Park Avenue S, 98408) at 10:00 AM PST! It is a fun opportunity to learn more about the team and what we do! School starts on September 3rd. We have meetings every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM PST at Portable 6 at iDEA High School. The FRC Season starts on January 10th, 2026, making our Shop Hours Monday thru Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM PST, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST.

Anyone is welcome to be part of the SOTAbots! To learn more about how to join just email us at sotabots@gmail.com or drop by Portable 6 at 4 PM PST after school! Remember, we accept people from more than just our own schools, so in order to be a team member, YOUR highschool must not have their own robotics team or attend one of the 3 Tacoma Public Schools Sister Schools (SOTA, SAMi, or iDEA), maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be open to learning about more than just robotics.
